ABX Air and Stilo launch innovative technical content solution
JETView™ saves time and money for aircraft maintenance technicians
21 May 2008, Swindon, United Kingdom
Air cargo services provider ABX Air and content processing specialist Stilo International today announced the availability of JETView, an extensive digital publishing solution for the airline industry. This innovative new solution helps businesses to reduce the cost of managing aircraft information and allows essential data to be kept more complete and up to date.
"Over 310 million pages of technical information are published every year in the airline industry," says Jeff Becker, Senior Director, Engineering, Reliability, and Maintenance Programs at ABX Air. "That's a pile of paper nearly 24 miles high. JETView provides an affordable and effective way for airlines to make this data available to technicians to support maintenance activities and ensure regulatory compliance."
Developed as a joint project between ABX Air and Stilo International, JETView enables airlines to:

Gain quick and easy access to Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (AMMs), Fault Isolation Manuals (FIM) and the Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) via an intuitive, online browser |

Search for and find information from data on over 3.5 million parts and 12,000 maintenance procedures

Improve compliance with the FAA's Airline Transportation Oversight System (ATOS) requirements

Constantly expand the volume of data in the technical library, without any degradation in performance |

Customise and publish their own technical publications without high costs, delays and restrictions |
Easy to maintain and use, JETView enables airlines to update their content whenever necessary. As a result, technicians can be confident that the information in their technical library is complete and accurate at all times.
"Many airlines subscribe annually to electronic publishing services," says Joe Gollner, VP Content Processing Solutions, Stilo. "The technical information available via these services can, however, often only be updated at set intervals during the year. With JETView, changes can be made in minutes."
JETView was built by specialist content engineers from Stilo, who worked alongside maintenance technicians from ABX Air to embed their aircraft industry process and content knowledge. The solution is based on Stilo's OmniMark content processing platform, a robust and scalable technology that is used successfully by companies across many industries to process large volumes of very complex content.
To help airlines get up and running quickly, JETView is supplied with up-to-date AMM, FIM and IPC data specific to their operations. The solution can also be supplemented with in-house manuals, such as policy and procedure manuals, to provide employees with a single portal for all the information they need to do their jobs. This not only improves internal efficiency, but also reduces the likelihood of errors and oversights that are critical to aircraft operation.
"Airlines don't make money while their fleet is on the ground," says Gollner. "Companies need to have easy access to complete and accurate information, so that they can ensure that the right parts are ordered and that maintenance jobs are scheduled and resourced appropriately. This leads to faster turn-around times for maintenance work, better customer service and the ability to maximise revenues."
ABX Air predicts return on investment in one year
ABX Air is using JETView itself internally to support the work of its maintenance technicians. The solution replaces a third party electronic publishing service that ABX Air used to subscribe to on an annual basis.
"Even including the investment that we have made in developing this solution from scratch, we anticipate that we will gain pay back in the first twelve months," says Dennis Manibusan, Senior Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering, ABX Air. "This is a clear indication of the kind of cost savings that companies can achieve by using this solution to bring their management of aircraft data in house."
JETView was previewed at the recent Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) 2008 show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it attracted attention from a wide range of companies involved in both passenger and cargo air transportation. Available immediately, the solution can be purchased in conjunction with a range of associated consultancy and support services from Stilo.
