Stilo unveils the next generation of its high-performance
content processing platform

OmniMark 9 delivers new capabilities for Modular Content Processing

25 November 2008

Swindon, United Kingdom – Stilo International today announced the availability of OmniMark version 9, the next generation of its leading content processing platform. OmniMark enables organisations to build, adapt, maintain and manage content processing applications quickly and cost effectively.   Applications that are created using OmniMark achieve exceptionally high levels of performance, even when handling very large volumes of content and many different content formats.

Available in December 2008, OmniMark version 9 introduces advanced new capabilities for building Modular Content Processing applications that are more flexible than ever before.  Organisations can easily create purpose-built parsers that enable them to process their content, as it actually exists, even if its format is entirely unique to their business.  They can handle different catagories of content in discrete modules and process them with precision.  Modular Content Processing applications created using OmniMark 9 offer many advantages.  Their flexible and adaptable structure enables them to be developed more quickly and then modified and maintained more efficiently.

In addition, OmniMark 9 offers built-in support for a larger number of standard content formats and delivers extensive 'any-to-any' content conversion capabilities.  It works comfortably with data resources, plain text, proprietary formats and structured mark-up (XML, HTML, SGML) in order to deliver services that exactly match the needs of the content users.  OmniMark 9 offers outstanding speed, scalability and stability, regardless of which formats are being processed.

"Companies today have to be able to receive, manage, store and publish content that is growing in complexity and volume," says Joe Gollner, VP Content Processing Solutions at Stilo.  "OmniMark 9 has been developed in response to this challenge.  With its latest enhancements, it enables organisations to build modular, highly-customised content processing applications and to achieve exactly the results they desire when working with an increasingly wide variety of content formats."

By taking advantage of OmniMark 9, organisations can:

Construct highly flexible, Modular Content Processing applications that can be cost-effectively integrated, modified, maintained and managed
Create applications capable of converting content in virtually any format into any other content format
Introduce specialised mark-up handling rules that meet the unique requirements of different, even arbitrary, content formats
Build and deploy specialised XML parsers, leveraging specifications such as RelaxNG, Schematron or S1000D Business Rules and integrate them directly into OmniMark-based applications
Deploy streamlined, high performance publishing processes for delivering DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) content

Gollner says: "Many companies that have developed transformation and publishing processes for their XML content resources, have found that they become unmanageably complex.  After substantial investments have been made, these organisations have come to some sobering conclusions.  The first is that many of the content resources that they must work with do not arrive in XML, or at least not in the XML format they were expecting.  The second is that some of the development tools that looked inexpensive at the start have in fact turned out to be very expensive indeed, due to maintenance and scalability challenges associated with those tools.  OmniMark 9 is capable of consuming and transforming content in many formats.  It provides a development framework that is both powerful and maintainable - two virtues that in other environments often compete with each other."

A proven solution that continues to evolve

First released in 1990, OmniMark is used by many leading organisations, including Boeing, Airbus, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Wall Street Journal, Hewlett Packard, Vodafone and the US Air Force.  Over the last eighteen years, it has gained a strong reputation for processing very large volumes of content while maintaining high levels of performance.

"OmniMark has become established as the premier tool for large-scale, complex content process environments, and we are committed to its ongoing development," says Les Burnham, CEO of Stilo International.  "As new technologies emerge and customer needs change, we continue to extend OmniMark's capabilities in any-to-any content conversion.  Stilo leads the way with the solutions and expertise to help companies address even the most complicated content processing challenges."
