HP works with Stilo to implement a versatile documentation solution
Stilo's OmniMark technology and innovative Content Engineering services prove a success for a leading computer company.
A Fortune 500 industry leader with revenues of over $40 billion and over 88,500 employees worldwide, Hewlett-Packard is one of the world's largest computer companies. More than 29,000 HP products are used in industry, business, engineering, science, medicine and education and for personal use. In addition to being the foremost producer of test and measurement instruments, the company also makes networking products, medical electronic equipment, instruments and systems for chemical analysis, handheld calculators and electronic components. Providing documentation for so many products is costly. Indeed, the company reportedly spent more than a million dollars on software alone for a new documentation system - and was unhappy with the results. Looking for an alternative, Hewlett-Packard selected Stilo to provide an e-Publishing solution based on the OmniMark Content Processing Platform. The Stilo personnel involved in the transaction recalled: "In addition to being more cost-effective, the main reason HP chose OmniMark was that it not only handles SGML data, but can also process non-SGML data and will, consequently, best serve the company in future projects."
In fact, HP has continued to invest in both the OmniMark platform as well as in advanced services from Stilo's Content Engineering services team. The company is using OmniMark to manage the rendering of product documentation to their website. To date, Hewlett-Packard has invested heavily with Stilo and has been served well by this investment.
