DITA Europe Conference 2007, Brussels, 13 - 14 November
Marc Speyer - Vice President, Content Migration Services, presented.
Stilo are delighted to confirm their sponsorship of the 3rd Annual DITA Europe Conference 2007, held on 13-14 November in Brussels, Belgium. Organised by The Center for Information-Development Management (CIDM), this year's event featured presentations from the DITA technical committee, companies currently implementing DITA, and vendors creating tools to assist with the implementation of DITA.
As part of our sponsorship, Stilo's Marc Speyer - VP, Content Migration Services, presented a paper entitled Accelerating DITA, which introduces strategies for systematically addressing the technical and business challenges associated with implementing DITA. DITA provides an exceedingly attractive framework for implementing efficient mechanisms for creating, reusing and publishing content. However, its implementation does present a number of challenges for organisations, such as the impact upon how authors and editors plan and develop their content and from a technical perspective issues around system performance and scalability. Marc's presentation addressed some of these issues and presented a coherent strategy for accelerating adoption of DITA.

Extreme Markup Languages Conference, Montréal, Canada 7 - 10 August
Stilo's Roy Amodeo and Mario Blažević presented papers at Extreme Markup, billed as the leading international conference on markup theory and practice. Roy's paper, Applying structured content transformation techniques to software source code, takes a fresh look at the challenge of producing XML markup from programming languages by recasting it as a content processing problem using tools developed in the same way as any other content-processing application. Mario's presentation, entitled Composable Templates describes how a template language can be used as a functional programming language, with each template a pure function that generates its output value from a restricted set of input values, using a set of predefined text filters that are also pure functions.

Stilo was a sponsor of the Australian S1000D User Forum, held in Brisbane at the beginning of May this year. Our own Joe Gollner spoke about Leveraging the Relative Strengths of S1000D and DITA. DITA introduces mechanisms that can be used to address a number of well-known challenges bearing upon content usability, both for authors and for alignment with legacy or parallel investments. S1000D, on the other hand, mobilizes substantial sector knowledge and brings it to bear upon the fundamental challenges surrounding the interchange of reusable and manageable content.
