XML Best Practices
The XML Best Practices course is aimed at IT and business professionals who already know how XML can serve their needs and require a deeper insight into the possibilities of XML content processing.
The course provides attendees with a practical orientation to the effective deployment of XML in e-publishing solutions and the ways in which XML can be processed for interchange between applications.
The course reviews various underlying technologies for XML processing such as DOM, SAX, XSLT and other approaches, and outlines proven methodologies for capturing business requirements into XML information models. The course considers the two most common models for processing XML content, which are streaming and in-memory transformations. Both techniques are discussed giving participants the background to understand the pros and cons of each approach, when to best use one instead of the other, or how to combine them together. A special emphasis is placed on XSLT and how it compares to streaming technologies such as OmniMark. Participants will also be introduced to the techniques of information modeling in XML, including XML Document Type Definitions and XML Schema. Both techniques are discussed and their relative merits considered. Best practices in developing XML models are showcased with reference to actual implementation case studies.
