# Commenting a rule

Individual rules can be commented.

A rule's comment appears directly below the rule's name.

## Procedure

1. In the **displayed rules** view, double click anywhere on the rule you want to comment.
   1. This places the rule in edit mode.
2. Double-click the comment text which appears directly under the rule's name.
   1. If no comment has been specified for the rule, the string **an unspecified rule comment** will be shown.
3. Enter the desired comment into the comment text area.
4. Click anywhere outside of the comment text area to stop commenting the rule.

## Result

A comment has been added to the rule.

## Once you are done

Although the rule has been updated within the rules editor, the change has not yet been propagated to the portal. To commit the change to the portal, you must save the rule set.
